The Graduate Student Within the Assistantship- Maddie Hartz

Maddie Hartz is a graduate student in the School Psychology program as well as a Teaching Assistant for the course School Psychology Assessment 1. She assists in creating discussion activities for the class and in group collaborative work.

As someone who was in the class last year, Maddie felt that she could see herself helping other students succeed in the class. She wanted to help students work on important assessments that are taught in class. She is passionate about the real-world material, and she wanted to pursue passing that on to the first-year students in her program.

Maddie’s favorite part of the assistantship is meeting with students. She enjoys connecting with the students and learning how she can better support them. Maddie finds fulfillment in her conversation with students as they work together to deepen their understanding of the material and assessments. Maddie believes that hands-on practice is essential in the field of School Psychology and is especially passionate about helping other students develop those skills.

After graduation, Maddie plans to become a School Psychologist. She believes that her experience as a Teaching Assistant is setting her up to be experienced with day-to-day portions of the job. One of the most valuable ways to learn is by teaching others, and Maddie is grateful to have had the opportunity to do just that.

Good luck with your future Maddie!
