Faculty and Public Administration Graduate Co-author Paper Published in Public Voices Journal

A faculty member and student were recently published in the current issue of Public Voices Journal. In 2016, a paper co-authored by Brittany Gray, now a Master’s of Public Administration graduate, and GVSU Professor Dr. Dan Balfour was selected to be published by Public Voices in October 2018. In their article, Voices from the Borders of Governance: Connecting the Local Narratives of Surplus Populations, Balfour and Gray explore the impacts of border policy on human mobility. The article provides an example to better understand and create ethical alternatives to exclusionary, and often deadly, border policies through the connection of multiple narratives.

In 2015, Balfour and Gray presented their research to the QuGo (Quality of Governance) panel at the national conference for the American Society of Public Administration.  Gray also presented this paper at the Great Lakes History Conference in 2016.

“By working with Dr. Balfour on this project, I felt I was truly able to dive into subject that is dear to my heart- to make a contribution to the fight against human trafficking and human rights violations,” Gray said when asked about the recent publication, “I’m truly thankful for this experience and for Dr. Balfour’s partnership and guidance.”

You can read the full paper online in the current issue of Public Voice.

Congratulations on your publication!
