WEATHER ALERT: GVSU will move to REMOTE STATUS for Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024. Classes shift to remote.
Part-time
Part-time Format
Students may apply to the program as a part-time student. Part-time students are required to enroll in all the didactic courses with the cohort they are admitted with (completed in 1 year), and are allowed to spread their clinical experience over a longer period of time (up to 2 years). Each new cohort begins in the Fall semester, and both didactic courses and clinical courses are started at the same time. Students complete a minimum of 16 hours per week of clinical education. Many part-time students continue to work as a radiation therapist while continuing their education.
The JRCERT accrediting body requires that students may not receive compensation from the clinical education center as employees during student clinical hours.
Clinical Hour Requirements:
- 1 section per day
- minimum of 4 hour sections
- max of 10 hours per day
- directly supervised
- Monday - Friday, 5:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m
Contact our program advisors to learn more about part-time options, or if you have a clinical site you would like to have affiliated with GVSU (can be a lengthy process, typically 3-6 months, but up to 12 months).
Clinical Site Requirements
- physical space available for a student
- access to a computer and treatment planning license
- staff available to train the student (physicist or dosimetrist) and to provide direct supervision
