Job Description
GVSU GIS Internship
This position provides support to the MiSTEM Network GIS
workgroup efforts in the MiSTEM
GIS StoryMap Hub.
Primary duties
1. The GIS intern will collect, clean, map and maintain various
sources of data for the
MiSTEM Network.
2. Attend bi-weekly
one hour meetings as student schedules allow. Meetings include
MiSTEM Directors, staff, other interns, and previous interns from
across the state.
3. For this position, the intern is required to
work four to five hours a week.
4. The intern will work under the
direction of the GIS Workgroup, the GIS Data Consultant -
Dr. Kin
Ma from Geography and Sustainable Planning at GVSU and MiSTEM
Network’s
Greater West Michigan Region’s Business, Community, and
Education Liaison. The
intern will also work alongside other
interns and previous interns as a team.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required
1. Strong understanding of GIS, ArcGIS, and ArcGIS Online
Completion of Computer Cartography (Gpy 200) or Introduction to GIS
(Gpy 307)
or an equivalent course
2. Ability to critically
think, analyze, and problem solve
3. Good communication skills
4. Self-motivator
5. Excellent punctuality, attendance, and
accountability
6. Excellent documentation practices
