Brandy Thompson, M.A.
Fostering Laker Success Program Coordinator and Independent Living Skills Coach
Brandy (she/her) is a 2002 GVSU Alumni graduating with a BS in Biology. She also earned a MA in College Counseling from Western Michigan University.
Prior to her role at GVSU she worked for 10 years as an Academic/Transfer Advisor for TRIO Student Support Services at Lake Michigan College working with first generation, low income and students with disabilities. Within her advising role, she had the opportunity to mentor foster care youth.

Emily Hansard
FLS Graduate Assistant
Emily (she/they) works with the Fostering Laker Success Program to support and mentor foster care youth alongside Independent Living Skills Coach Brandy Thompson, and additionally assists with program planning, fundraising, spreading awareness of the program, as well as gathering community resources. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in social work, and is a 2025 graduate of Central Michigan University, having earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology.
