Laker Open House events for prospective students and families were held on April 5 and April 12.
Grand Valley’s Spring Laker Open House events on April 5 and April 12 drew record attendance and reinforced the university’s growing appeal among prospective students and families.
Hosted by the Admissions Office, these events were designed to showcase the university’s diverse academic offerings, robust student support services and the distinctive Laker experience.
Each Open House featured presentations from several high-demand majors, along with sessions on financial aid, housing and the admissions process. Throughout the day, tours provided guests the opportunity to experience campus life.
B. Donta Truss, vice president for Enrollment Development and Educational Outreach, greeted attendees on April 5. “It was inspiring to see so many students and families excited about the future and open to what Grand Valley has to offer,” Truss said. “The energy on campus was incredible and I was proud to be a part of helping people feel at home here.”
The two events welcomed 560 students and 1,743 guests, reflecting a strong 83% show rate, an increase over the 2024 Open House events.
Of the 428 students who reported GPA information during registration, the average GPA was an impressive 3.68, underscoring the academic caliber of GVSU’s prospective student population.
“These results speak to the strength of the GVSU brand and the dedication of our entire campus community,” said Danny Vélez, associate vice president for Admissions and Recruitment. “From faculty to staff to student ambassadors, everyone played a role in creating an experience that truly reflects what it means to be a Laker.”
Soon, faculty and staff will welcome newly admitted students to campus for New Student Orientation.
