Kurt Thompson, retired AWRI research associate, died December 4.

Kurt Thompson, retired AWRI research associate
Kurt Thompson, research associate at the Annis Water Resources Institute, died on December 4, 2022. He was 67.

Thompson began working at AWRI in 1989, after completing a bachelor's degree in geology at GVSU. As a student, Thompson worked under Norm TenBrink before joining AWRI, first working with John Koches and then under the supervision of Al Steinman. Thompson retired in 2021, but agreed to continue to help out at AWRI as a part-time technician.

Thompson's computer and GIS skills were highly valued, and he shared these skills with faculty, staff and students in the geography and IT departments. Kurt was always willing to lend a helping hand, accompanied by his incandescent smile. 


Lucille Grimm, retired nursing faculty 
Lucille Grimm, associate professor emerita of nursing, died October 18, 2022. She was 91.

A lifelong nurse and nurse educator, Grimm served as a visiting nurse before becoming a faculty member and teaching at  Eastern Kentucky University, St. Mary's at Notre Dame, Bay de Noc Community College in Escanaba, University of Iowa and Grand Valley.

Grimm was appointed to the board of directors of Grand Valley Health Plan in the 1990s. She was also part of the team to help Grand Valley obtain accreditation for its nursing program. 


James Reardon, retired custodian
James Reardon, retired custodian for Facilities Services, died May 16, 2022. He was 67.

Reardon worked for Grand Valley for 32 years before retiring.
