Amy Matthews, professor of psychology and director of the Autism Education Center, was reappointed to the state's Autism Council. 

Faculty and staff members who have given presentations, were recognized for outstanding contributions or had their research published are detailed below. The campus community can submit a sketch online for future publication.

Chris Hinsch, associate professor of marketing, was interviewed by WOOD-TV for a story about the proposed FTC ban on junk fees and by WalletHub for a story about insurance companies with customizable services

Scott Rood, associate professor of hospitality and tourism management, was interviewed by MoneyGeek for a story about getting the most of reward credit cards for travel.

Shannon Owen, director of the Traverse City Regional Center, was interviewed by the Record-Eagle for a story about a partnership with Northwest Education Services to offer free teacher certification to area ISD employees. (Story behind paywall)

Andrew Kalafut, associate professor of computing, was interviewed by WOOD-TV for a story about the Cyber Threat Range in the Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences.

Louis Moore, professor of history, was interviewed by USA Today for a story about University of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders's signature move of flexing his watch after games and during interviews.

Sketches

Grand Valley's Public Relations Student Society of America chapter received numerous awards at the PRSSA international conference in Nashville, Tennessee.

  • Alumna Amberly Dzimira received the Gold Key Award, the highest honor for a PRSSA member
  • The chapter earned the Star Chapter Award, its consecutive honor since 2008-2009; the University Service Award and the Chapter Website Award.

Chemistry faculty Stephanie Schaertel and George McBane, and alumni Esabella Powers and Ted Schultz were authors of an article, "Internal Temperature Determination for Laser Noise Cancellers," published in the Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer.

Amanda Buday, associate professor of sociology; Sean A. Woznicki, assistant professor of water resources; Danielle DeVasto, assistant professor of writing; and student Rylie Dorman were among authors of an article "Great Lakes for Whom? Community Outcomes in the Muskegon Lake and White Lake Areas of Concern," published in the Journal of Great Lakes Research.

Adeline Borti, assistant professor of English, was a co-author of a chapter, "Newly Trained Ghanaian Teachers' Opportunities for Learning Literacy Content," in a book, International Perspectives on Literacies, Diversities, and Opportunities for Learning, published by Routledge. Borti wrote an article, "Exploring a Preservice Teacher’s Literacy Knowledge and Positioning," published in Social Sciences & Humanities Open.

Valerie Peterson, professor of communication studies, was a panelist for a session, "Reading Jaron Lanier's 'Ten Arguments for Deleting Your Social Media Accounts Right Now,'" at the annual Media Ecology Association Convention held at Fordham University in New York City.
