President Philomena V. Mantella and Keri Becker, director of Athletics, are serving as chairs of two GLIAC councils.

President Philomena V. Mantella and Director of Athletics Keri Becker will play key roles with the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference until next summer.

The pair began their one-year terms as chairs of their respective councils for the GLIAC on July 1; Mantella as chair of the Council of Presidents, and Becker as chair of the Management Council.

The Management Council is the policy-making body of the GLIAC with three representatives (director of athletics, a faculty athletics representative and a senior woman administrator) from each school on the council.

The Council of Presidents is composed of the presidents from each of the conference’s 10 member institutions. The Council of Presidents serves in an advisory role to the Management Council and oversees the conference’s commissioner.

The GLIAC was founded in 1972 and Grand Valley was one of the five charter members (Ferris State, Lake Superior State, Northwood and Saginaw Valley State).
