Johnson Center accepting applications for award for faculty to partner with nonprofits
The Johnson Center for Philanthropy is accepting applications from faculty for the Juan Olivarez Learning Equity Endowment, which supports problem-solving and relationship-building between GVSU faculty and Michigan nonprofit organizations.
Faculty members and nonprofits in successful engagements will each receive an honorarium of $1,000. Learn more details and find application forms online. Applications are due Friday, Nov. 13.
Inaugural recipients
The three inaugural recipients of the Juan Olivarez Learning Equity Endowment were Dawn DeVries, program director and associate professor for recreational therapy; Andrea Van Dyke, archivist for Rare Books and Special Collections; and Kelly Margot, associate professor of teaching and learning.
Their stories are detailed online, including reflections from faculty and project results. For example, Margot partnered with the Detroit Public Schools' Gifted and Talented Education department to host a "Super Saturday" of activities for 150 students in grades 2-7.
Kelly Margot, associate professor of teaching and learning, (second from left) earned the Juan Olivarez Learning Equity Endowment last year to partner with Detroit Public Schools and the Roeper Institute to host a day of activities for students. The Johnson Center is again accepting applications for this award.
