Students, faculty, staff and alumni gathered in late March to share ideas for the next phase of GVSU’s strategic planning. With the current GVSU five-year plan, Reach Higher 2025, concluding this year, university leaders are seeking campuswide input to shape the plan’s next phase.

To spark innovative thinking, seven interactive “Foresight Sessions” were held. All GVSU community members were invited to participate.

Activities included asking participants to state what they know to be true about student life, community engagement, teaching, learning and more. Participants then “flipped” each statement to its opposite, spurring future-forward thinking and creative new possibilities. For example, what if financial aid systems evaluated student earnings in addition to parental income? Or if employers, together with departments, helped to shape educational content to align with workforce demands? Participants voted for their favorite insights that emerged.

More than 300 faculty, staff, alumni and students participated and generated more than 900 insights at the sessions, which were held virtually and in-person on the Pew Grand Rapids and Allendale campuses. All insights will be compiled and analyzed to help shape the next phase of GVSU’s strategic plan.

Foresight Sessions were one of several engagements led by the Reach Higher Collaborative Leadership Network.

All Lakers are invited to provide their feedback about GVSU’s strategic direction until May 31.
