Scholar in Residence

The Scholar in Residence program is an exciting opportunity to conduct research in the family business field with scholars at the Seidman College of Business and to connect and build relationships with the West Michigan family business community.

The Scholar in Residence will receive an $11,000 stipend to fulfill the responsibilities listed below over a 12-month period.

  • Collaborate with at least one faculty member from Seidman and submit an article for publication in a peer reviewed journal article.
  • Collaborate with Seidman faculty members and the FOBI Director on family business related research.
  • Visit Seidman for at least two weeks to meet with faculty, students, and family business leaders.
  • Provide an executive education seminar for West Michigan's family business leaders.
  • Write a 2-3-page, practice-oriented manuscript, on any area of expertise, product of previous, or ongoing research, to be distributed to West Michigan's family business executives.

The application requirements are the following:

  • CV including a detailed list of family business and other publications.
  • A research statement, explaining not only research interests, but what the candidate can bring to FOBI and Seidman (up to 1,000 words).
  • A personal statement including why the candidate is interested in the position and in the family business field.
  • A brief of the practice-oriented seminar that could potentially be offered to the West Michigan family business community (title plus up to 2 paragraphs).
