Co-op Rotation 1

Experience Information

Employer: L3 Aviation Products
Job Title: Test Engineering Intern
Major: Electrical Engineering
Received Credit: Yes
Paid: Yes
Abroad: No

Description of the Organization

The organization I worked in was a division of L3 Technologies as a whole. The corporation spans many different sectors, and splits them up into divisions. Aviation products makes up a sizable portion of the corporation and is itself split up into a few locations across the US.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

The work was very software focused with most hardware work being more basic, systems level analysis. I worked on creating new test engineering software packages as well as assisting in updates to existing software. However, the nature of what the software was being written for still necessitated an understanding of electrical engineering concepts.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

I developed a far greater aptitude for C coding as well as a working understanding of Python. Gained experience with common engineering systems like subversion clients and subtask trackers. Furthermore, I gained appreciation for the importance of documentation and standardizing, as well as the ability to document myself.

Favorite Part of the Experience

The workplace had a great chemistry. I always enjoyed coming into work, and everyone was helpful and eager to answer the numerous questions I had as a first semester co-op student.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

I may decide to go into a career with less of a software focus, but am still glad to have this experience.
