DeWys Manufacturing is a sheet metal fabrication shop and a one stop solution for clients interested in sheet metal parts. It started as a one-man shop in 1977 and it progressed to more than 150 employs. The company has been growing exponentially and improving in every aspect. They provide the highest quality in precision metal work. The company produces office furniture, medical equipment, automotive parts, and many other types of parts.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I was assigned project manager on some of the main projects that DeWys had at the time I started my co-op. Working as a project manager gave me the opportunity to experience every aspect of a manufacturing company. It improved my understanding to the process from the beginning until the product is finished and shipped to the customer. During my co-op I had many tasks and problems to solve, but basically I was coordinating everything that was going on for the project and ensure problems are solved.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I have learned a lot. I learned discipline, patience, and professionalism just to name a few. Having so many responsibilities improved my work ethics. I learned many new technical skills on the job as well. I had to do a lot of research during my co-op to be able to meet customer requirements. The customer I was working with had very high expectations and I wanted to make sure they are pleased with what DeWys had to offer them.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of this experience has been being productive. When the project started there were several open issues and problems that I was not sure about how to solve. With a lot of research and the help of a great team at DeWys Manufacturing my list kept getting smaller and things were getting done. Working with a great team has made this experience so much better
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience did not change my future career goals but confirmed them. I enjoy working on complex projects and problem solving. This experience has provided me with a lot of challenges and I was very happy and pleased at the end when everything came together.
