Description of the Organization
Trane is a large, commercial HVAC company that strives to solve any customer's HVAC problems. The Grand Rapids sales office works with commercial HVAC orders throughout the Michigan area. Although Trane is a large company, the Grand Rapids office has a smaller, tight-knit feel.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
My main responsibility is generating equipment submittals, which document what equipment and accessories a customer has ordered, along with performance. The process includes reading building plans and specifications then verifying that Trane supplies everything the customer needs. I also generate quotes for equipment replacements. This involves translating the old unit model number(s) to a current Trane model, checking what units we have in stock, and pricing the units.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
My professional communication skills have improved greatly. I've never had trouble communicating professionally in the past, but in the field, there are different expectations. I've learned to get my point across in a clear and concise way while still including all important information in an email.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of this co-op is my team! I look forward to seeing them every week, and all my work is appreciated. I've also had the opportunity to work from home for a few days of each week. I enjoy the balance between in-person and virtual work.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I've discovered many benefits for working in sales as an engineer. I'd like to stick with sales in my future. My coworkers have also shared a lot of their past/present work experiences with me. From these experiences, I've learned things I do and don't want from my future employers.
