Description of the Organization
L3T is an avionics company that produces many avionics instruments. I worked in the Test engineering department with a small group of engineers. We write and fix test software used to test the avionics products.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
This co-op tasks included performing maintenance on old software and fixing minor bugs that arose. I also created tests to help fix problems like I2C communication problems. Other day to day activities involved reviewing schematics and wiring diagrams. There were a couple big projects which culminated in building and designing a calibration station. This included software and hardware elements.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
This co-op I gained more C programming knowledge and also learned the Python language. I sharpened my hardware skills as well as design skills.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of co-op was the co-workers I worked with. They were all great and made coming to work fun. From a work standpoint, at the end of this co-op I was involved on a big project to create a conditioning station. I did a lot of work on both the hardware and software sides, but it was fun and a great learning experience.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I enjoyed what I did at L3 during my 3 co-ops very much. I like being able to work with both hardware as well as software, and I think I became pretty good at both. I think I have become a better engineer in every way. L3 also opened my eyes to what is done behind the scenes in the avionics field. I would be excited to find a job like this after graduation.
