Description of the Organization
Dornerworks is a embedded systems firm /software firm that takes all kinds of contracts from the DoD to a small company in Illinois. The organization employs around 100 engineers total. It is split into 5 groups core, medical, IOT, Septech and FPGA. Each group has its own group manager and project manager. There is also a technical lead and team strategist for each group as well. In each group there are engineers level 1 through 3 and those increase with expertise.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
The main project I worked on during this semester was setting up Continuous Integration(CI) testing for the septech team on our NASA SBIR project.I worked closely with team members to make sure we could thoroughly test all applications that we made to ensure they all worked
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I gained great knowledge in both the software development cycle and Continuous Integration. I also learned about APIs, auth tokens, encryption, linux, virtual machines and so much more.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part about the internship was setting up a check-in/check-out system for two of the more expensive embedded boards we have. This way anyone working from home could test on the boards remotely without having to come into the office.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
It has made me realize that I definitely want to focus more on software development rather than circuity and also opened my eyes to the world of virtual machines and Linux.
