Koops is a company that provides factory automation solutions. They specialize in automotive manufacturing processes. Koops provides the design, programming, integration, and service of their projects.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
This semester I worked primarily in the mechanical design group. I had numerous projects where I was the only engineer assigned to the project. On the majority of my projects I was supplied with data from the customer and was required to fully design a machine that would meet the customer's requirements.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Koops uses Solidworks for all of their 3D modeling. I gained extensive knowledge of using this software. I also learned a lot about manufacturing and best design practice. While designing parts for a machine I expanded my knowledge of physics, dynamics, and statics to design parts that would support and weight and fatigue it will experience during its lifetime.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of this c-op experience was the level of responsibility I was given. I was almost always the only design engineer working on a project and always had meaningful engineering work.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
Koops does a great job of developing well rounded engineers by giving hands on experience with real world projects. Because of this I got a better idea of different areas of engineering that I might be interested in pursuing.
