Walters Gardens is a large company with a small company feel. Their website explains their roots well: "Our company has grown from a small farm of less than five acres worked by just a few men to a multimillion dollar corporation with over 250 employees, 1,500 acres of land, and 500,000 square feet of greenhouse space." Walters Gardens has a ever increasing technological base and employ cutting edge techniques to actually biologically engineer new flowers for market.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I had one primary project throughout the semester that consisted of developing a data archival process to maintain a exponentially blooming sales and management database. I also had a brief introduction to PLC control.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I was able to grow in my knowledge of project management techniques and software testing techniques as I worked on the archiving project. I have also achieved considerable growth in Microsoft Sql Server and t-sql. Several PLC seeds were also planted, as well as cyber security.
Favorite Part of the Experience
I really enjoyed being able to work on one big project from start to finish and It has been very cool to see how it will help the company. It was really great to get to where I really want to see the company do well, and I thought that was particularly cool to feel included in the company so quickly.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has really reaffirmed my desire to enter into a computing career and has also allowed me to see how I could help by learning more controls engineering.
