Description of the Organization
JR Automation designs and builds automated manufacturing equipment. They make equipment for many different customers in the automotive, aerospace, food production, pharmaceutical, and other industries. Each machine is custom made, which means they employ many more engineers than some other industries.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I worked on projects with more experienced engineers, completing smaller parts of their larger projects. I would do ProE CAD modeling and drafting frequently. I would also work in the quoting office, estimating costs and writing proposals for new work that the sales team would bring in.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I have become a much more proficient designer with good skills on the computer. I have gained good hardware selection skills and a good knowledge of what components are available. I have learned loads about how a business is run and what the business climate is like in the manufacturing industry.
Favorite Part of the Experience
I really enjoyed getting to know all of the great people at JR. They have a good community there, and it feels good to be a part of it.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I have gotten a taste of what it is like in sales and quoting, and I think I may begin a career track in that direction.
