Description of the Organization

GVSU Athletics Compliance handles the day-to-day situations that deals with the rules, regulations, and bylaws of the NCAA. Compliance attempts to make sure that the coaches and/or student-athletes are not going to do anything that deems the university liable for any NCAA sanctions.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

I do believe that I am a fit because I am able to comprehend the rules, regulations, and bylaws of the NCAA Division II manual in which we use to govern our decisions made pertaining to the student-athlete compliance situations we must resolve. I am there to assist the Associate Athletic Director, Walter Moore, with the daily rigors of the Athletic Compliance job. Since I am able to quickly pick up on the compliance situations and corresponding bylaws, it makes for a more efficiently run office.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

I gained the aptitude to be able to understand and interpret the bylaws of the NCAA. I was able to sit in on staff meeting with the entire athletic department and see first hand how these meetings should be ran. As well as understanding how to conduct efficient conference calls, meeting with coaches, and meetings with student-athletes.

Favorite Part of the Experience

My favorite part of this co-op experience has been the interesting and captivating conversation that comes about in the office amongst staff.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

This experience has pushed me even further towards realizing my career goal of one day becoming the head athletic director of a university and running my own athletic program efficiently.
