Description of the Organization

Charter House Innovations is a 350 employee organization that specializes in furniture for fast food restaurants and sustainable LEED certified furniture. They are also starting to delve into the luxury move theater seating industry.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

I worked mostly with the manufacturing side of CHI implementing lean principles and new manufacturing techniques to their new line of Bliss chairs.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

I gained a lot of practical experience with facilities layout, assembly lines, inventories, design for manufacturing, and lean manufacturing.

Favorite Part of the Experience

My favorite part was when I got to be out on the floor working directly with the production staff. Over the course of the semester is was a great and rewarding experience to see their lives at work improve from what I was implementing.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

I have learned that I do not want to be stuck at a desk all day simply doing CAD work. I really enjoy getting my hands dirty, experiencing first hand what the production workers do, and improving their experiences. I have also learned that I definitely value human interaction more that computer interaction.
