Description of the Organization

Mill Steel is a steel distribution company that buys coils from a steel mill and then tests and distributes these coils to customers that commonly use the metal to make die parts or other products that come from sheet metal.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

I tested steel samples in the lab for chemical and physical properties, reviewed these test results to verify accurate properties, and worked with business representatives to fit individual steel coils to matching customer orders.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

I increased my knowledge of different types of steel and their respective properties and behaviors. I also broadened my knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Lastly, I gained lots of social and communicative skills and learned to work well in teams with my coworkers.

My favorite part was working with the people at Mill Steel. They managed to keep the work environment productive but fun, and they made the overall co-op experience a fun and enjoyable time.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

It has opened my eyes to different possibilities of jobs that still use engineering backgrounds, but may not be restricted to just engineering.
