Description of the Organization

DISHER is an engineering consulting company located in Zeeland, Michigan. There are about 150 employees. DISHER has mechanical, electrical, computer, product design, automation and manufacturing engineers, business leads, graphic designers, as well as a talent solution team and more. DISHER employees act as a consultants and, depending on the customer, can work at the customer site or remotely from DISHER.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

Throughout my second rotation at DISHER, I assisted on multiple billable projects. The types of billable projects were customers from varying industry backgrounds. That is one aspect that is awesome about DISHER, there is so much project variety! For this semester I was able to work on both hardware and software projects. When I wasnýt on a full-time customer project, I had many training opportunities to complete. One of my bigger tasks, not for a customer, was working on Altium Concord Pro. Altium is a PCB design and schematic program. Some other tasks I was able to work on was automation training and customer site visits.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

Some skills and knowledge I gained were SQL and python coding. These were both things I didnýt learn through my program. I also was able to do surface mount soldering, lock out and high voltage trainings. I gained experience in hardware design and coding. I also continued to learn more about DISHER and how the company works. Attending the company wide offsite is a very eye opening, rewarding, and awesome experience. There are two offsites every year and it is a time for the entire company to come together and learn how DISHER is doing, participate in a stewardship activity (this year we filled 500 meals for Kids Food Basket), strategic priorities, team building and more.

Favorite Part of the Experience

I donýt have one part of my co-op experience that was my favorite. I really enjoyed my entire time at DISHER. I got hands-on experience, many learning opportunities in a variety of industries, and applied my hardware and software knowledge. The people I worked with are very supportive and helpful.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

This experience greatly influenced my future career goals by working in a healthy and positive work environment, as well as working for a company that gives back to the community. DISHER also actively follows through with its mission statement. DISHERýs mission statement is to ýMake a positive differenceý. Throughout this semester, there were many stewardship opportunities I was able to participate in. And then with the COVID-19 pandemic, DISHER came together to help the community in numerous ways.
