Description of the Organization
Viastore Inc. is an international material handling and AS/RS company that designs and implements both large and small systems. Based in Germany, the company is spread over nine countries, providing solutions from everything from the food and beverage industry to the automotive sector.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I worked with the systems engineering department to design and develop conveyor systems. This involved working with the customer to ensure everything desired was accounted for, calculating loads, providing drawings, and determining solutions.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I learned about the material handling industry and common problems and solutions. As well as learning to be a good coworker, this co-op gave me experience in AutoCAD, especially installation and approval drawings.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of the co-op experience was the people I got to work with. The office had a great atmosphere and was a pleasure to work in. I met and worked with many good engineers and people.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This has certainly given me perspective on some of the jobs the Grand Rapids has to offer. It is the center of a large material handling industry that I had no idea about previous to the co-op.
