Description of the Organization

A2LA is among the largest accreditation bodies in the world and the only independent, non-profit, internationally recognized accreditation body in the United States that offers a full range of comprehensive conformity assessment accreditation services.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

I reported directly to the director of government relations and had the primary task of staying up to date on research for any legislative action at the federal and state levels for bills and regulations that could have an effect on the business of A2LA. In addition to that I was responsible for drafting letters to the legislative representatives and government agencies advocating for the beliefs of A2LA on the specific issue.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

This experience allowed me to see first hand how all levels of government interact with one another as well as how the private sector can have effects on the decisions made by the government.

Favorite Part of the Experience

My favorite part of this internship was the way the interns where treated in the office. I was always made to feel like my opinion mattered and I had an impact on the decision making process.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

This experience has provided me with insight into how the government works directly with private companies and it has encouraged me to continue to pursue a career either working for a government intelligence agency or a private company conducting research.
