Manufacturing Engineering at Autocam

Experience Information

Employer: Autocam
Job Title: Manufacturing and Quality Engineer
Major: Mechanical Engineering

Description of the Organization

Autocam is an established 25 year old company that is one of the leaders in the sale of automotive precision components. Autocam promotes a continually improving and environmentally friendly future without sacrificing performance in automobiles.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

I worked under an experienced Manufacturing and Quality Engineer who was very active in getting tasks accomplished so I was given several small projects of my own throughout the summer. I designed some part flipping trays to assist the area machinists, rearranged the tooling racks for the new tooling locations, created a hand tool shadow board for the operators, and became the area conveyor fixing guy.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

I was not very experienced in working on machines before this job and now I have learned basics in operating one. I have also gotten more comfortable with speaking to different companies over the phone. I also learned more about the system of quoting and writing POs in return. I previously had experience in designing projects on the computer so one of my biggest skills I have improved on is my ability to talk confidently to people I do not know.

Favorite Part of the Experience

My favorite part of my co-op experience at Autocam was towards the end of it when I looked around and could visibly see the impact I had made on the operators and the whole area. I worked on many projects involving organizing the tools and the operator work areas.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

This co-op experience made me look forward to my future in the automotive engineering industry even more!
