Description of the Organization

Cascade Engineering is a plastic product manufacturer. They make garbage cans, auto parts, and various other plastic products. Almost all of their plastic products are created by injection molding. They have some of the largest presses and molds in the United States.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

As a mechanical engineering intern, I mainly helped out with testing and investigations on why certain products would malfunction or break. I also did some design work for various fixtures on molds and testing apparatus.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

I definitely honed my skills in problem solving. The majority of my tasks required me to find the sources of problems and then create ways of solving them.

Favorite Part of the Experience

I really enjoy working at Cascade Engineering because it is a very environmentally conscious company. Cascaded Engineering is a Certified B corporation, meaning that it is not required to do everything it can to maximize profits. Rather it is allowed to take factors such as impacts on the environment and society. Basically, the company does everything within its power to maintain a sustainable business model through its motto; People, Planet, Profit.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

This internship has shown me that mechanical engineers can do far more than just design parts. It has really opened my eyes to some of the many different opportunities that mechanical engineers have to make a positive impact on society and the environment. I have two more internships scheduled with Cascade Engineering and I am really looking forward to them.
