Description of the Organization
Padnos is one of the largest metal, plastic, and paper recycling companies in West Michigan. Padnos has 15 customer centered locations, and 7 service locations spread out between Holland, Alma, Lansing, and Northeast Indiana. The company was started in 1905, and has been growing ever since. The company is Family owned and has been operating over many generations. Recently, Padnos has acquired Great Lakes Recycling on the East side of the state, expanding operations to 9 more locations throughout Michigan.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
Projects included reverse engineering cyclone systems, designing airlocks, overseeing the design & production of four semi truck trailers, and helping organize the re-location of one of our recycling plants. Other projects included minor plant improvements and additions to our manufacturing processes.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Extensive SolidWorks design, AutoCAD layouts, materials science applications, 5S process planning, material handling design, interdepartmental coordination skills, steel & weldment design/drawing, in-field engineering and design skills.
Favorite Part of the Experience
With so many locations and different types of recycling plants, there is always something new and interesting to learn about and get involved with.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
The more experience I gain within the recycling field, the more interested I am in pursuing a career in the industry. The work is rewarding and the people are great to work with. Working here has reinforced my decision to take on engineering.
