Description of the Organization
DornerWorks is a small embedded systems engineering company based in Grand Rapids. DornerWorks provides expert technology engineering to help create standout products for their customers in the aerospace, medical, automotive, and industrial markets.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I worked on developing automated hardware tests for a prosthetic elbow. This included writing unit tests to cover as much of the existing manual test protocol as possible and adding hardware to the existing test fixture.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Coding in Python and C, fixing hardware issues, using Git, and using JTAG programming.
Favorite Part of the Experience
Getting to do real engineering work with a great team of talented engineers who were willing to take the time to help and teach me.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I've enjoyed the experience so much - I am excited to complete my next two co-op rotations at DornerWorks and learn more about embedded systems. It is definitely a field I could see myself working in in the future.
