Description of the Organization

Axis Automation is an automation company located in Walker, Michigan. It is a smaller company consisting of approximately 50 employees. They serve various industries including automotive, furniture, consumer goods, aerospace, and packaging. Some of our applications within these industries are vision integration, welding, machine tending, and adhesive dispense. The mechanical engineer department focuses on designing the machines that will be implemented in these industries.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

This semester I worked on a variety of projects on the back end of the design process. This consisted of detailing prints for parts and assemblies, redesigning and updating existing designs, verifying robot loads, and evaluating robot and fixture interaction.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

Through this experience I have gained a great deal of knowledge in SolidWorks, machine design, how to prioritize work, communicate ideas with others, and a general understanding of automated processes.

Favorite Part of the Experience

Overall, my experience at Axis was great. They have a great work environment where everyone is happy to answer any questions and have great conversations. My experience in redesigning components was also an area I enjoyed because of the challenge and knowing that you are designing something that will someday be made and used for a long time.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

Working at Axis has shown me the type of work environment I would like to be in as well as the type of work within mechanical design that I enjoy the most. It is an interesting industry that has a lot of opportunity and room to learn even outside your area of expertise.
