Description of the Organization

Magna is a huge company that leads as a global automotive supplier with 340 manufacturing facilities and 89 product development, engineering and sales centers in 27 countries. However, despite its size Manga Mirrors has a small company feel. In my department there are 9 other engineers I work with. While I do not work with every engineer at once they are quick to help and always have something for me to do.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

As an advanced product design intern I work mostly on benchmarking and assisting other engineers. Benchmarking consists of taking competitors mirrors and creating a document that breaks down competitors mirrors performance and parts. Another huge part of working in the Advanced Product Development group is our quarterly innovation meetings. Each quarter we are tasks with prototyping a new feature or product that has never been done before and presenting it to the team.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

Throughout my experience I've learned what it takes to manufacture a good mirror. Additionally, I've improved upon taking and presenting data. Probably the most beneficial skills I have learned is how to better manage a large workload and communicate with my team.

Favorite Part of the Experience

My favorite part of my internship are the innovation meetings. I love to challenge myself and come up with new and innovative ideas that have never been done before.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

This experience has pointed me in the right direction of what I want to do with my engineering degree. I want to work in an advanced product development group such as the one I work in now.
