Description of the Organization
The Grand Rapids Griffins are an AHL hockey team affiliated with the Detroit Redwings and the Rise is a professional volleyball team that is part of the Pro Volleyball Federation. The Griffins and Rise Front Office staff are in charge of delivering memorable experiences by enhancing the community through sports.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
On game days as a Corporate Sales Intern, I had to do the following duties: Pre-Game -Hang sponsorship banners -Set up Kids Club -Help set up concourse tables -Prepare T-shirts for giveaways -Place coupons with appropriate sponsors in the correct spots During Game -Escort guests to their table on the concourse -Help with set up for player entrance -Throw T-shirts -Hand out coupons -Work Kids Club Post-Game -Teardown all things necessary On days with no games, I would complete tasks such as completing donation requests, updating Kids Club, preparing game day schedules, & more.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Throughout my experience, I learned how to stay organized and complete tasks quickly and efficiently. I learned that when working in sports, especially hockey it is important to be timely because things can happen quickly.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of my internship was forming relationships with people in the office. Not only did I make friends with other interns, but I was also able to form relationships with other people in the office. These connections hold significant power as they involve individuals who could potentially assist me in my future career opportunities.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
As I gained experience with the Griffins and Rise, I found that I am interested in working in a position that involves working with sponsors and what it takes to fulfill those sponsorship contracts. I have learned through this how important it is to build brand awareness and reach fans in a powerful and meaningful way.
