Description of the Organization
Gentex Corporation makes the largest percentage of auto-dimming mirrors using their patented electrochemical element features and ambient light sensor. The company has a high focus on innovation and technology.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
Most of my semester was spent managing and supporting final assembly production lines. The tasks I performed required leadership, management of resources, and social and technical skills. When off the production floor, I worked on several continuous improvement projects and was able to implement them on the production lines during the time I was here.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I gained an immense amount of knowledge about production systems while working here. Additionally, I worked on management and leadership skills. I was able to see a lot of machines and work with technicians that walked me through how sensors, actuators, and other components are used to assemble mirrors.
Favorite Part of the Experience
Participating in the internal classes at Gentex, which covered topics such as production models and lean manufacturing.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
Gentex has allowed me to see what a successful manufacturing environment looks like. I was able to develop real-time and real scenario problem-solving techniques. I also made a lot of connections with engineers at the company.
