GVSU Inclusion & Equity Institute Color Burst

This facilitated discussion space is for faculty, staff, and students who have attended at least one LGBTQ Foundations session and want to go deeper, not through slides, but through shared conversation. Together, we'll reflect on real questions, tensions, and moments of growth we've encountered in our roles. What feels challenging or confusing about affirming LGBTQIA+ students and colleagues? Where are we still learning? What stories shape how we show up? This space centers vulnerability, humility, and collective insight.

Whether you're feeling unsure, affirmed, or somewhere in between, this session invites honest dialogue and reflection, with no need to have it all figured out.

Learning Outcomes - Participants will be able to:

  • Articulate personal and institutional challenges in applying LGBTQIA+ affirming practices
  • Engage with peers to unpack questions or uncertainties in a open-minded space
  • Identify one action or mindset shift to integrate into their practice
  • Gain confidence in navigating discomfort and complexity with humility

Presenters:

  • DL McKinney (They/He), Director Milton E. Ford LGBT Resource Center
  • Callie Youngman (She/They) Faculty, Clinical Instructor
