Indoor Lead Climbing - Session 1

For experienced climbers who want to take their skills to the next level. This workshop will instruct the basics of indoor lead climbing and belaying in a 2-day format. Attendance of both days in addition to logged practice time and a formal skills evaluation are required to receive your lead climbing qualification at GVSU. 

This workshop has 3 prerequisites:

  1. Minimum 12 Months of climbing experience (indoors at any facility or outdoors) with at least 6 months of frequent climbing (~1x per week) 
  2. Must be a skilled top rope belayer who is qualified to belay at our facility.
  3. Complete 3 climbs in succession at the 5.9 grade or higher in a comfortable and confident manner without falls or rests (staff attest required)

It is recommended that participants have their own personal harness, shoes, and belay device but these items can be provided by the Climbing Center as-needed.  Rope and quickdraws will be provided by the Climbing Center.

Session 2: Wednesdays, October 6 & 13; 6pm-7:30pm
