Program Structure and Requirements

The major requires 120 credits and is designed to be completed in four years. Students begin with foundational courses in environmental science, biology, chemistry, geology, and mathematics, while meeting General Education requirements. Intermediate coursework includes ecology, GIS/mapping, soil science, geohydrology, and environmental policy. Advanced requirements emphasize hands-on experience (ENV 305), applied training or professional certification, and a senior capstone (ENV 495).

In addition to core courses, students select at least 9 credits of degree-focused electives from at least two disciplines, choosing from advanced biology, chemistry, geology, geography, and natural resource management offerings. Many students also pursue related certificates in GIS, remote sensing, or environmental compliance.

The program balances classroom learning with real-world application, ensuring graduates have both the scientific expertise and the practical skills to address today’s environmental issues.
