Ashley Copperstone joins Grand Valley State University after spending the last decade as an early childhood special education teacher in New York City. Born and raised in Queens, New York, she has taught in both Head Start and the New York Public Schools supporting students and their families in inclusion, integrated co-teaching, and self-contained settings. Her teaching philosophy is grounded in a child-centered, individualized approach that celebrates the strengths of each neurotypical and neurodivergent learner. Her experience fuels her passion for not only classroom instruction but also shaping early childhood policies that promote equitable access and support for all learners. She holds a bachelor's degree in education studies and history from Skidmore College, a master's degree in special education from Fordham University, and postgraduate credits in Autism Spectrum Disorder, Process-Based Learning, Art and Music in the Early Childhood Setting, and Trauma-Based Practice.
