Direct Credit is a type of concurrent enrollment where high school students earn college credit for the career and technical education (CTE) courses they take at their local Career Tech Center or High School. The courses are confirmed to be equivalent by GVSU faculty, and the program instructors are qualified through the GVSU Faculty Qualification Assurance process. Upon completing the program, students with a B or better will receive a GVSU transcript with their course(s) and grade(s) listed.

GVSU charges $145/credit hour for direct credit. GVSU invoices the Career Tech Center or High School the total for each student earning direct credit at the conclusion of the academic term.

Currently, GVSU's direct credit partners include Allegan County Area Tech & Education Center, Battle Creek Central High School, Buchanan High School, Careerline Tech Center, Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District, Charlotte High School, East Kentwood High School, Grand Ledge High School, Hillsdale Area Career Center, Hudsonville High School, Kenowa Hills High School, Kent Career Tech Center, Muskegon Area Career Tech Center, Northwest Education Services, Oakland Schools Technical Campuses, Sparta High School, Van Buren Tech Center, West Michigan Center for Arts and Technology, Wexford-Missaukee Career Tech Center, Wilson Talent Center, and Zeeland Public Schools.

In order to be eligible for direct credit through Grand Valley State University, a signed agreement between GVSU and the Tech Center or High School and specific program is required. You must follow regular admission application procedures. This includes completing the degree-seeking undergraduate application and submitting updated transcripts. You are also required to attend Orientation to register for classes and meet all other admission deadlines.
