CSD Undergraduate Advising
All admitted CSD undergraduate students are assigned an academic advisor in the CSD Department. All CSD academic advisors are faculty in the department, and therefore, knowledgable about advising concerns related to the CSD curriculum and any other advising related to (but not limited to) graduation requirements, letters of recommendation, applying to graduate schools, etc.
Our CSD academic advisors are available to meet in person, over phone, or on Zoom.
Non-admitted students should set up academic advising through the College of Health Profession's Student Services Office. Senior CHP advisors are available to provide academic advising.
If your questions are general in nature (and does not require individualized advising), please consider visiting the organization site "CSD Undergraduate Students" on GVSU's Blackboard. All group advising is held via Zoom, and previous group advising sessions are recorded and made available on this site. If you are an admitted CSD major and you do not yet have access to this site on GVSU's Blackboard portal, then please contact the CSD Department to subscribe ([email protected]).
Current Undergraduate CSD Major Paths
Traditional Path - 4 semesters
The 4-semester sequence is completed across two academic school years, and students enroll in 1-5 courses each fall and winter semester. Students complete coursework following a prescribed sequence of courses. This option is ideal for students classified as sophomores or juniors when they begin the course sequence.
Fast-track Path - 2 semesters
The 2-semester sequence is completed in one academic year, and students enroll in 4-5 courses both fall and winter semesters. Students complete coursework following a prescribed sequence of courses. This option is ideal for students classified as seniors who have completed all requirements for graduation except for the CSD/SLP courses.*
NSSLHA-CSD Undergraduate Chapter
What is NSSLHA?
NSSLHA, an acronym for National Student Speech Language Hearing Association, is an association for students interested in the field of speech-language pathology and/or audiology. NSSLHA is an affiliate with the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA), which is a professional organization for audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists. NSSLHA was founded in 1972 and has approximately 13,000 members with chapters at more than 300 colleges and universities. You can join NSSLHA at a national level for $60 and receive access to member’s digest, and more. You can also join Grand Valley's chapter at a local level for $5 a semester and have access to all of the volunteer opportunities and events we host. We encourage local member to join at a national level as well, but it is not required.
