National Classics Scholarship Supports Summer Study

Classics major Megan Esparsa is a recipient of the Minority Scholarship in Classics and Classical Archaeology awarded by the Society for Classical Studies (SCS) for Summer 2015.
The purpose of the scholarship is to further an undergraduate's preparation for graduate work in classics or classical archaeology. Candidates are judged on the basis of their academic qualifications, especially in classics, including demonstrated ability in at least one classical language, or in fields that prepare a student to become an archaeologist; the quality of their proposal for study particularly as preparation for a career in classics or archaeology; and financial need.
The Society for Classical Studies (SCS), founded as the American Philological Association in 1869 by "professors, friends, and patrons of linguistic science," is the principal learned society in North America for the study of ancient Greek and Roman languages, literatures, and civilizations. The Society’s goal is to advance knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of the ancient Greek and Roman world and its enduring value.
