Roman Emperors and Classical Myths in 21st-Century Editorial Cartoons Around the World

Monday, February 19 at 1:00 PM in 2204 Kirkhof

Roman politicians like Julius Caesar and Nero, and figures from Classical mythology like Atlas, Sisyphus, Narcissus and Europa, appear frequently in editorial cartoons around the world.

In this illustrated presentation, Professor Sienkewicz will discuss classical references in a variety of 21st-century cartoons and consider the many ways that editorial cartoonists use references to Greco-Roman antiquity to make statements about contemporary political and economic issues.
