Spencer Gillis becomes an Administrative Fellow at Spectrum Health for 2021-22

Congratulations to Spencer Gillis on receiving a Spectrum Health Administrative Fellowship!  The fellowship is a one-year program that gives postgraduate students a rich, professional learning, and working experience in health care operations and administration.

Fellows will lead or be involved in projects covering a wide range of administrative areas, including finance, human resources, hospital operations, health plan operations, medical group operations, strategic planning, insurance, marketing, information technology, facilities, quality and medical affairs.

Fellows report directly to Tina Freese Decker, President & CEO of Spectrum Health. Under her supervision, fellows work with and participate as members of the senior leadership team, enabling them to gain experience through interaction with executive leadership. This is accomplished by attending board meetings, attending executive and medical staff meetings, and participating in strategic planning.

Spencer is grateful for his experience at GVSU.  Over the last three years, he has taken a wide variety of courses which have helped him understand the complexities across the industry and prepared him for leadership in healthcare.  He's also had the opportunity to work with many local organizations for student projects and have met with leaders across healthcare in Michigan.  The program faculty and resources available have been incredible and were very much a key to his success.  His time at GVSU has built the base for his career that no doubt will serve him for years to come.

This fall, Spencer will receive his master's degree in health administration within the GVSU School of Public, Nonprofit and Health Administration.  He also received his bachelor's degree in biomedical science from GVSU in 2017.

We are excited to share Spencer's success in receiving this fellowship and know he has a great future ahead of him!
