Student Health Insurance
Health Insurance and You at GVSU
Important Notice About Student Health Insurance
GVSU does not offer a student health insurance plan for domestic students at this time. Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), students can stay on a parent's health plan until age 26. If you do not have health insurance, the Campus Health Center can still see you. However, we strongly encourage all of our students to be insured.

Understanding Your Health Insurance
Insurance Terms Explained
Health insurance is confusing, here are some common terms explained:
- Premium: The amount you pay each month for health insurance coverage (like a subscription fee)
- Deductible: The amount you pay out-of-pocket for covered services before your insurance starts paying
- Copay: A fixed amount you pay for a covered service, paid at the time of service
- Coinsurance: Your share of costs (as a percentage) after you've met your deductible
- In-Network: Providers who have agreed to accept your insurance plan's rates (you pay less)
- Out-of-Network: Providers without agreements with your plan (you typically pay more)
