Description

Join us for free pizza and the showing of Blood Diamond! Set during the 1990’s civil war in Sierra Leone, this film tells the story of two men, a white South African mercenary (Leonardo DiCaprio) and a black Mende fisherman (Djimon Hounsou) who form an unlikely partnership in an effort to recover a rare, and potentially life changing, gem. To achieve that goal, enlist the help of an American journalist (Jennifer Connelly) as they trek through rebel territory. The film raises numerous human rights issues of particular concern for African nations including post-colonial instability, tribal warfare, commercial exploitation, the conscription and indoctrination of child soldiers, and the indifference of the West to a blighted continent.
