Acronym
LO
Description
Learning opportunities (LO) are the way teaching is delivered and learning occurs. The three components of a learning opportunity are 1) an antecedent or stimulus that cues a behavior or response, 2) a behavior or response, and 3) a consequence that influences the future occurrence of a behavior. When teaching, a consequence would involve 1) reinforcement for accurate responding, or 2) a prompt to assist the student to respond accurately. The repetition of this learning cycle results in the acquisition, fluency, and maintenance of learning. The more repetitions, the faster the learning.
