Van Buren Tech

To receive direct credit for the GVSU Athletic Training designated courses listed below, students must work with the Administration at Van Buren Tech to ensure that they are enrolled in the program, maintain active participation status, and achieve a grade of B or higher in the Sports Medicine coursework instructed by Gabriella Shultz.

Gabriella Shultz, AT, ATC: Sports Medicine Instructor

Gabriella Shultz is a CTE Sports Medicine instructor with a background in athletic training and secondary school education. She teaches at Van Buren Tech Center, where she aligns her curriculum with Michigan CTE standards and Grand Valley State University's athletic training courses to support student success.

Before teaching full-time, Gabriella worked as a certified athletic trainer with Corewell Health South, providing injury prevention, emergency care, and rehabilitation for high school athletes. She is passionate about making learning accessible and collaborates with special education professionals to support students with diverse needs.

Outside the classroom, she enjoys attending Green Bay Packers games, always keeping an eye on the field for injuries.

Megan Swartz is a CTE Sports Medicine program assistant at Van Buren Tech Center and athletic trainer. In addition to working in the classroom full-time, Megan works as a PRN athletic trainer for Corewell Health South. Prior to that, she worked full time as an athletic trainer and sports medicine instructor in the secondary school setting in Washington state for 8 years. She is passionate about getting students excited about the field of sports medicine. 

Outside the classroom, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two young kids, going to the beach, and thrifting.
