Do I need to complete all Prerequisites prior to submitting my application?
No, you can be in the process of completing your prerequisites. The prerequisites and undergraduate degree must be completed before the first day of classes of the professional program. You would be a conditional admit, meaning you will be admitted as long as you finish the prerequisite requirements.
- All prerequisites must be equivalent to GVSU courses, if from another college or university.
- All prerequisites must be taken for letter grades.
- For each course, a grade of C or higher is required.
- The prerequisites and undergraduate degree must be completed before the first day of classes of the professional program.
Can I apply if my GPA is below the requirement?
Yes. However, it is strongly encouraged to meet with your Academic Advisor to see if you will be able to achieve the requirement prior to the first day of classes of the professional program.Overall GPA will be recalculated for admittance each semester prior to the start of the MAT program.
Do I really need to send in ALL transcripts?
Yes. ATCAS will verify the classes you entered (or will enter on your behalf for a fee) and compare them to your transcript for accuracy. Your application will not be verified until you complete this step. Please go to ATCAS Transcript Entry Help website to view how to make this request.
Do all of my observation hours with an Athletic Trainer need to be complete?
No. You can be in the process of completing your observation hours, just like your prerequisite coursework. You must have them completed before the start of the professional program. Reminder, they must be with a certified and licensed athletic trainer. If you have no hours to submit, simply attach a Word document outlining your plan for completion.
Can the Athletic Trainer have dual credentials for my observation hours?
Yes. The athletic trainer may have other credentials, but when you are observing them, they need to be practicing (licensed and certified) as an athletic trainer. The hours have to be post-secondary school. Please see the Hour Verification Form to complete.

What is the GVSU AT Supplemental Form?
GVSU technology system and ATCAS have the ability to merge information from your ATCAS application to the GVSU Graduate School Application. However, GVSU software is unable to pull all of your information. When you submit your ATCAS application, you will get an email from GVSU Admissions requesting the completion of a Supplemental Application within our SLATE system for you to be able to complete your application for Graduate School at GVSU. ATCAS application is only for the GVSU MAT Program.
- Please note: If you have ever filled out an application to GVSU undergraduate or graduate program(s), you have paid the $30 fee and do not have to pay it again. GVSU is a one-time application fee institution.
What is the Health Compliance Requirements?
All students, faculty, staff, and volunteers at GVSU participating in clinical or non-clinical experiential education placements or research at healthcare affiliated organizations will need to obtain/maintain their immunizations.
