  • AWARD LETTER: The official written notice from the Department of Veterans Affairs to a student of his or her monthly rate of payment, the inclusive dates of payment, delimiting date, and remaining entitlement at the end of the award period.
  • COE (Certificate of Eligibility): This is the document issued by VA listing the type of benefit you are approved for, the amount of entitlement you have remaining, and your delimiting date (if applicable).
  • DD 214: The Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty that is prepared at the time an individual completes a period of active duty in one of the Armed Forces.
  • DELIMITING DATE: The date after which a veteran is no longer eligible to use benefits due to expiration.
  • ELIGIBILITY PERCENTAGE: For Chapter 33 Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients, eligibility is determined on a tiered system based on accrued active-duty time. This percentage determines the amount of tuition/fees a student is eligible for, as well as their housing rate.
  • DEPENDENT: Qualifying dependents for VA benefit purposes are a veteran's spouse and child (natural child, adopted child, or stepchild). A veteran's mother or father may also be considered a dependent if dependent upon the veteran for support.
  • SCHOOL CERTIFYING OFFICIALS: The university employees responsible for processing your benefit paperwork and submitting it to VA.
  • SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE: A benefit payable to a veteran or serviceperson as a supplement to their basic educational assistance.
  • VA EDUCATION BENEFITS: Refers to the benefits provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs for veterans pursuing education.
  • WAVE: An Internet program used by Chapter 30 and 1606 students to verify their enrollment. Verification is required monthly.
