Overview
As a prospective member of the Hub on Advanced Computing Research, your organization gains specific advantages and protections regarding intellectual property (IP) and research publications. Our policies are designed to balance academic openness with industry needs.
The GVSU HUB for Advanced Computing Research creates and maintains the HUB Research Portfolio.Industry members receive a non-exclusive license to use items in the portfolio.These items may also be released to the public domain or open source, typically under Apache 2.0 or similar licenses.The HUB also disseminates its work publicly through publications and open-source releases.

The University will not seek patent protection for any invention developed through a Hub research project |

All software created by GVSU under a Hub research project is released under an open-source license. |
This allows Members to freely obtain and utilize the Hub Software under the Apache X.Y license (or similar). |

IP Management |
All IP is handled consistent with applicable University policy and processes. |
Ownership and management of IP are addressed in the Membership Agreement. |
Member Review of Publications
Members have the opportunity to review research results before they are published to protect their proprietary information and IP.
- Review Requirement: The Hub provides Members with a copy of any proposed publication of research results prior to publication.
- Member Action: Your Industrial Membership Board (IMB) representative is responsible for reviewing the paper.
- Review Deadline: You must notify the Hub Director within thirty (30) days of receipt if you find:
- Confidential Information belonging to your company that needs to be removed (which the Hub agrees to do).
- Patentable IP belonging to your company that you wish to protect.
- Publication Delay: If you identify patentable IP, the Hub will agree to delay publication for up to ninety (90) days to allow for necessary protection measures.
No Notification: If no notification is received within 30 days, the Hub is free to proceed with the proposed publication
